In this presentation: “A Journey to Leadville, Colorado in the Late 1800s,” author Afton Rorvik uses historic photographs and sketches to tell the true story of a remarkable, quirky mining town and the enormous ice castle the townspeople built in less than two months during the winter of 1895-1896.

This 30-minute presentation, based on Afton’s recently released book, will engage curious readers from nine to ninety-nine.

Afton Rorvik, a Colorado native, discovered Leadville as a teenager and used her allowance money to buy books about Leadville history. She has published two adult nonfiction books and worked as a high school English teacher, an editor, and a freelance writer.
